In case it isn't clear, though it should be since I mentioned that it was the original Oden story as reported I characterized as "appalling," and, in my post yesterday, said the issue had gotten cloudier, I agree about what probably happened in the Oden situation, and about airport security.
As I said on FA in a discussion with choosie about this:
I agree-- she knew about September 11, knew how tense people are in the wake of it about security, and nonetheless had a mind set, as she went to get on that plane, that made her make a big, self-important fuss over a wand and a National Guardsman touching her as she wiggled about, or whatever she did to register her indignation at the search...
I mention this because I think her mindset wasn't as mine would have been. I won't be complaining about a wand being shoved up my arse, if it helps keep the flight safe for me and my fellow passengers...

I was entirely convinced that this was the case until I noted this comment in the piece you posted. Now I reserve the possibility that there was more to it than that:
"While acknowledging that Oden was singled out for added extensive screening, authorities said it was more likely related to the manner in which she purchased her ticket than for her activist past."
"More likely related to" seems to suggest a less likely but still possible scenario that she got the extensive screening not for her online ticket purchase.
Has anyone who reads this thread paid for their ticket online and gotten "extensive additional screening" since September 11? Not gotten it?
