I for one am highly skeptical that "existing gorillas" alone are sufficient diversification for anyone - let alone "most portfolios".

I understand your point and I believe it's valid. When Moore mentioned "most portfolios," I assume he is referring only to the high-tech portion that an investor allocates to the portfolio, whether it's a small amount of the portfolio or a large amount. That changes the context.
