StrataFlash stores each 2 bits (soon to be 4) as a four level voltage (soon to be 16). Therefore, a D/A and an A/D conversion must be done when a write or a read is done, respectively. This takes time, and there is also a greater sensitivity to temperature. Also, there are limits to how long it can be stored and still read accurately, the slightest leakage will change the information. Going to lower voltages for lower power is problematic because it makes these problems worse.
