Correction
November 8, 2001

Because of editing errors, the Nov. 7 Other Opinion page statement "Van de Velde: `I Demand The Chief Apologize'" contained two misstatements not in James R. Van de Velde's original transcript. Philip S. Cusick was slain in 1996, not 1994, and he is not the son of a New Haven police detective. The Courant regrets these errors.
