I'm glad your e-mail message included the details about having taken it apart first.

Alos the "low heat" and "let it dry for several days". You don't want even a little bit of water in there when it is plugged in. The e-mail also included a story about a TV repair place using hosing out gunk in old TVs, which seemed even more incredible to me.

"Along the same line, my son ran a TV repair business for several years. Often all that was wrong with a set was that it had accumulated so much dust and lint (due to the high voltage inside the box) that it wouldn't work because of signal leakage through the dirt. To "repair" them they took them to an area behind the shop (where customers couldn't see), took the backs off and hosed them out with a garden hose. After letting them dry for several days very many of the sets worked like new. If something else turned out to be wrong they were much easier to work on after being cleaned."

They stories are in the Langalist e-mail newsletter. Its mostly about computers, and it has at least one humor section in each e-mail. You can subscribe for free with adds, or for $10 a year with the adds replaced by extra content. You can check it out at langalist.com

I figured I'd give it a plug because I posted it's content.

Tim

Edit - I just realize this wasn't from the normal just for grins section but rather from the premium content so I probably shouldn't have posted it.
