AAMI AMERICAN AMMUNITION INC - Demonstrates Bullet Designed Specifically - For Use Inside Commercial Aircraft New York, New York, Nov 08, 2001 (Market News Publishing via COMTEX) -- Law Enforcement Community and Press Show Enthusiasm Over Air Defense Round American Ammunition, Inc. demonstrated its new Air Defense Round (ADR), a bullet that will not pierce an aircraft fuselage but will penetrate human soft tissue. Acting on requests from the law enforcement community, American Ammunition originally designed the product specifically for use inside the cabin of a commercial aircraft, with additional applications such as nuclear power plants, hazardous materials storage facilities, and home defense. The Company demonstrated the product, which was designed as a direct result of the attacks on America, September 11th, before the Georgia Tactical Officers Association (GTOA) at the Cobb County Police Department Training Center in Atlanta, GA on November 2, 2001. In attendance at the demonstration were, Commissioner of Public Safety, Robert Hightower, members of the Georgia State Troopers and SWAT Team and a variety of Law Enforcement Agencies. Representatives from the Associated Press, CNN, and local print and television media where also present. The representatives from the law enforcement community expressed a great deal of interest in this new technology. Commissioner Hightower said he was encouraged by the rounds performance, telling the Marietta Daily Journal, "We think, from a law enforcement standpoint, it has a lot of applications. I've never seen a round that would do this. For us, it is not only going to save some lives, some innocent, civilian lives of people who are not even in the fray, but it is a tremendous liability-avoidance situation." The Company demonstrated the controlled penetration characteristics of this advanced projectile on several targets including a section of Boeing 727, Ballistic Gelatin, and a simulated interior wall (gypsum board construction). In each case the ADR performed as expected, providing designed penetration of the target materials while not exhibiting perforation beyond the design parameters. Applications for the ADR include commuter and commercial aircraft, sensitive ground assault applications, such as entry into thin wall construction buildings, schools, etc..., where excessive penetration could cause collateral damage and unintended secondary wounds. Working closely with law enforcement, American Ammunition has started producing variations of the ADR in several other calibers. "We are very encouraged by the outcome of this demonstration and the degree to which the law enforcement community is receptive to this advancement in ballistics. American is working diligently to produce the new calibers to meet this need," stated Andres Fernandez, President and C.E.O. of American Ammunition, Inc. American Ammunition has departed completely from standard ballistics and designed this projectile to meet this growing and unfilled need. Two of the basic design criteria in ballistics are penetration and expansion of the projectile. These two factors have been controlled to meet the specific requirements of weapons discharged inside an aircraft cabin, while insuring fuselage integrity. This design is a new concept in close quarter ammunition: a bullet capable of incapacitating an assailant without terminally damaging surrounding structure.
