No raises for a year. dailynews.yahoo.com Post Office Seeks Immediate $2 Billion Bailout Photos Reuters Photo WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. Postal Service told lawmakers on Thursday that it needs $2 billion in emergency funding to cover lost revenues caused by the Sept. 11 hijack attacks and anthrax-tainted letters that appeared last month. U.S. Postmaster General John Potter told a Senate appropriations subcommittee that these events had ``resulted in costs and business impacts that simply could not have been anticipated.'' Potter separately estimated $3 billion or more would be spent on cleaning up anthrax spores, purchasing mail-sanitizing equipment and instituting other preventative measures. ``We urge Congress to recognize that emergency funding is required as part of the effort in defending homeland security,'' Potter said in written testimony to the panel.
