Yes, Gabe, Iomega does get royalties from the sale of Zip disks manufactured by other companies. You may sleep well knowing that your purchase of Fuji brand Zip disks still helps to support Iomega.

BTW, all, I wanted to report that J&R Computers, one of the largest computer retailers in New York City, has the Iomega Zip and Jaz promotion prominently featured in their Tuesday full page ad on the back page of the Science section of the New York Times. It's right in the middle. I'll stop by to check stock levels if I get a chance, but you can rest assured that they don't waste ad space to promote products without having adequate stock.

J&R also carries Zip disks made by Fuji and Maxell, as well as Iomega. They price them all the same, however.

One other comment. I note that tech stocks, including IOMG are all down this morning following Motorola's announcement of disappointing earnings for 2Q. It never fails to amaze me how analysts and traders lump all the techs together, as if they're all joined at the hip. It's quite clear that Motorola's failure to clean up in a wireless market which has been consistently over-estimated by everyone, has nothing to do with, say, the data storage companies, PC makers, et al. So this announcement is no reason to sell tech across the board. Yet here we are, with most of the tech sector in red. Go figure.
