ISI chief Lt-Gen Ehsanul Haq is part of a small delegation that President Musharraf has taken along in his special plane to Paris, London and New York. Several reports appearing in US newspapers have not only been casting serious doubts about the whole-hearted ISI cooperation to the US military campaign against Afghanistan because of the massive connections of the agency among the Afghans but also levelling grave allegations against it.

The ISI chief is likely to personally allay such suspicions and apprehensions. Gen Ehsan's meetings with his US counterpart and other senior officials are not ruled out, as the CIA is obviously fully in charge of intelligence operations against Osama and Taliban. , an official told The News.

The official said that neither Bush nor Rumsfeld, during their dialogues with Musharraf, had asked for allocation of Pakistani troops like others countries including Turkey for a major ground offensive against the Taliban.

Pakistan's policy of supporting in just three fields remains unchanged, and at the very outset even before the Americans had sought Pakistan's cooperation, Islamabad had made it clear to Washington that its troops would not be part of any operations against Afghanistan, the official said.

He said that the United States realizes Pakistan's position in earmarking its troops for operations against Afghanistan and that is why they have not made any such demand.
