I believe the objection to the name of that law is that it has nothing to do with patriotism; it is actually an internal security act.
And it is likely the misnomer was not unintentional. Who can be against patriotism? Yet the act seriously extends the power of the government to intrude into and monitor the activities and beliefs of citizen. It also allows the government to do such previously unthinkable things as ignore habeas corpus and conduct secret trials. This sort of activity is characteristic of dictatorships, not democracies.
Does this ring a bell? "Patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel."
