Lehman Brothers semiconductor analyst Dan Niles said
Thursday the Semiconductor Industry Association's annual growth forecast for
the industry in 2002, is still "too high." Late Wednesday, the SIA forecasted
global semiconductor sales will grow 6% from a 31% decline in 2001. Niles,
however, expects the chip industry's growth to be flat or even lower in 2002.

According to Niles, 1Q 2002 sales will be seasonally down, despite commentary
from many companies that the 4Q is the bottom. He noted that the analyst
consensus for earnings to increase two cents from the 4Q to the 1Q of 2002 is
unlikely. (DLF)
