The persecution stories begin in Biblical times and a new chapter is added on as necessary.

These persecution stories can be seen as an advertising campaign to keep the faith solidified in the face of massive assimilation and doubt. To keep the "faithful" focused on Palestine, any discrimination or outright persecution is going to be played to the hilt.

The clear cases for persecution stories are Masada, Inquisition, Russian pogroms, and Holocaust. This is not to say that they did not occur, but those events give the Zionists something to hang their hats on and push on with their program of re-claiming the land.

So you could make a valid argument that art, film, and literature plays a role in the advertising campaign. Some would say works od art, film, or literature have a message, others could say they have an agenda. It is a matter of one's perspective.

Arafat is playing the same game that the Zionists play, mixing truth with fantasy. A good con-man must have a good percentage of his schtick rooted in reality or reality as it is presently accepted.

As the Zionists have learned well from their oppressors, Arafat takes his cues from his.
