Until liberal democracy began giving Jews the rights of citizens, massive assimilation wasn't an option. The "persecution stories" are just the history of persecutions. You just touched the highlights of the persecutions, there are many more. How about the Chelmnicki pogroms, the expulsions from Yemen and Tunisia? How about the dhimmi laws? How about the half-million Jewish refugees from Arab countries since 1948?

Arafat is playing the same game that the Zionists play, mixing truth with fantasy. A good con-man must have a good percentage of his schtick rooted in reality or reality as it is presently accepted.

One little problem -- Arafat has precious little truth in the mix. He has one truth: before 1948, the majority of people in Palestine were Arabs. That's it. The rest of the mix -- the Palestinians have always been a separate people, they inhabited a separate country called Palestine, they are descended from Caananites, there never were Jews in Palestine before 1948, there never were any Jewish antiquities in Jerusalem, the events of the Bible took place in Yemen -- you do know they are pure fantasy, don't you?
