Timber West and Weyerhaeuser hold considerable acreage of old crown grants on which raw log export regs are much looser ... Doman's doesn't, to my knowledge ... i'm not up on recent events in that side of things, i'll ask around next week

Weyerhaeuser supported BC against the yellow pine lobby last i heard, but not with great fervour or a large amount of cash for legal defense ... they have more interests below the line than north of it, and may find principle secondary to immediate monetary advantage ... but here again, i have no recent detailed knowledge on exactly where everyone stands

Clearly the lobby will do anything it can to impoverish us, and having the Kommerzwaffe hold back lumber with 30%+ duties would encourage the resource to be shipped raw, and bankrupt the mills .... but really, those logs remain of superior quality to their scabby yaller pine down in the slave states, so their goals would be better served by blocking BC wood entirely ..... if they can knock our industry out of the game and at the same time compel a fire sale of crown land, they'll be the only buyers with significant capital, and i've always wondered if this wasn't maybe their ultimate goal ... if they had our land they could use that pine for firewood, and still do very well indeed
