Hi, elmat - I'm out of my league, here, but some questions occur, from your response...

We talked, long, long ago ( spring '00) about porting telephony from radio LANs. Is the coming of this phenomenon what you're referring to when you say...

"It signals the balkanization of US wireless business" ?

Because I would have thought the removal of the spectrum cap would have the opposite effect to balkanization: that it would allow larger carriers to use more spectrum in a given area. To the extent that will make them more commercially viable, wouldn't that decrease the number of players, but make those that remain more profitable?

And even though porting some fraction of wired/wireless telephony to radio LANs will decrease incumbent revenues to some extent, until IPv6 is universal, won't the effect be negligible at first?

Finally, the spectrum used in porting telephony to radio LANs is not the same spectrum that is dealt with in Frank's referenced NR: ie., radio LANs would be using 2.4 GHz, 5.X GHz, and MMDS, wouldn't they?

Sorry, elmat; I think I missed it. >g<

Best regards,

Jim
