"Meteor clue to end of Middle East civilisations
By Robert Matthews, Science Correspondent
(Filed: 04/11/2001)

SCIENTISTS have found the first evidence that a devastating meteor impact in the Middle East might have triggered the mysterious collapse of civilisations more than 4,000 years ago...."

"...satellite images of southern Iraq have revealed a two-mile-wide impact crater caused by a meteor..."

The Bush Administration noted that this demonstrated the effectiveness of air power as an instrument of policy.

In a related matter, the Navy confirmed that all of its stray cruise missiles had been accounted for, finding targets in Afghan hospitals, retirement villages, strip malls, metroplexes and foreign embassies. However, a spokesman confirmed that the target maps used were not of recent enough vintage to show the 4,000 year old crater.
