Yep, Spanish flu was a doozy.

Never assume your enemy is sane and rational

I don't typically assume lots of people are sane and rational -g-

Although I also sometimes look at "worst case scenarios" you can't act on them all, and there is also no point "painting your self into a corner" with worry. Concern is one thing, worry is another.

I understand uw's fears. It's horrible that young people have to fight and die in wars. In WW2, Berlin, during the Russian assault on the Reichstag, the Russians were up against SS elements of foreign Nazi troops. Norwegians, Dutch, French Nazi's. They knew they were not going home and fought a desperate battle to the last man.

My hope is there are not similar problems (the Russians were racing each other to the Reichstag, and Stalin didn't worry about casualties at all) in the Allies command where ego's get in the way of careful rational thinking. They have lots of technology including robots.

The Allies efforts so far have impressed me favorably. They seem to be doing a fantastic job.

I hope it continues.

note Burt Lancaters line was (see link) "I think we'll be sitting in our own rubble; a minimum of one hundred million dead."
