... I personally never said there was not a link between FGM and religion. What you read was a copy of a report from AI.
I knew that, as was made clear, I thought, by my introducing the quote with the words, "Re the AI quote you posted."
I'm glad you "personally" feel there is a link between Islam and FGM. In any case, I addressed you on the subject because it was you who posted the AI link containing that quote, and who also made the particular point, as though it had a larger significance than I am able to discern in it, "In the Mid-East and Africa it apparently is practised mostly by Muslims but not the majority of Muslims. Converted Christians still carry on the tradition in some areas." ("Converted Christians" meaning, I assume, that the tradition became theirs when they were Muslims, and didn't depart from them when they converted to Christianity.)
And call it PC if you want, but there are "vibrant" cultures in the ME and Africa. Doesn't mean that everything in those cultures is acceptable to me but that is true in the good ole USA also.. What makes this nation so special is our eclectic mix of cultures.
That sounds like you describing the hideous oppression of women, up to and including slicing 'n dicing the little girls genitals with rusty razorblades and stitching them together with thorns, into "unacceptable to me."
I love "but that is true in the good ole USA also.."
Like, "Well, nobody's perfect!"
As I said about vibrant cultures, good for them. Vibrant vibrant vibrant. Yay.
Next I'll send the Pollitt link.
BTW, I am an active member of our county's AI group, and was its leader until a couple of years ago. |
