President Bush said of the Northern Alliance, "We will encourage our friends to head south across the Shumali Plains, but not into the city of Kabul itself." The Americans want to withhold the rebels from installing a one-dimensional government.

This brings again a question to mind that has already been there with the talk of keeping the Alliance out of Kabul. If we want to bring down the Taliban and/or control enough territory to really be able to go after Bin Ladin, how does that non-one-dimensional government get into Kabul without the Alliance doing it in terms of the ground war? Someone has to be on the ground, and they are doing the great bulk of that at this time. If there were not people starving and winter coming on it might not be such a deal. But they are and it is. Unless we, or the U.N., or the coalition want to sent in forces to take Kabul in the next week, it is time for the Alliance to do it, imo. And, yes, with the understanding of instituting decency towards the people in the town. How in the world could we think to keep them out of there? Unless we are willing to go in on the ground and do it ourselves. Let them take the city, and bring in the U.N. behind them.

Now I'll read the other things you posted and see if I spoke too fast. :)
