Re: TCO

TCO is tossed around very glibly but it's surprisingly difficult to get any sort of consensus on the subject. For most companies, their major IT cost is people, which includes employee training. Every vendor understands this which is why (re)training costs are one of the major "lock in" factors that influence real-world purchase decisions.

In many ways one of the real advantages that Windows enjoys in the corporate world is its prevalence in the consumer space which results in huge numbers of "self-trained" employees. It was consumer acceptance of Windows 95 which largely drove its corporate growth and I fully expect this same phenomenon to repeat itself with Windows XP.
