I just checked the dates of the other flights out of curiousity - there doesn't appear to be anything in common.

Egypt Air 990 was October 31, 1999, a Sunday. It was headed to Cairo.

TWA 880 was July 17, 1996, a Wednesday. It was headed to Paris.

Swissair 111 was September 7, 1998, a Monday. It was headed to Geneva.
