re:cheap shots

Not me fingolfen.

There was a lot of mileage from a cheap shot with an Athlon failing with no heatsink.

The point I was making is the Intel Speedstep problem results in shortened battery life and may become excessively warm.

AMD has an issue with it's PowerNow! in it's laptop with XP also. It will result in the laptop not being able to take advantage of improved battery performance if it was using PowerNow. But not getting excessively warm or decreasing the battery life of the laptop.

How many people run desktop computers without a heatsink compared to how many users are using laptops with XP loaded on them without the current updates? I'd bet that there are a lot more XP based laptops running around without the updates.

Therefore, if you have certain Intel based laptops running Windows XP, you might want to get the updates as soon as possible and pick up an extra battery.
