Taiwan's Macronix expects sales to rise

sg.news.yahoo.com

TAIPEI (Reuters) - Taiwan memory chip maker Macronix International said on Tuesday its sales in the fourth quarter will rise slightly from the third quarter.

Macronix president Miin Wu told institutional investors that Macronix's gross profit margin in the fourth quarter would be about 38 percent, compared with 43 percent in the third quarter.

In addition, the chip maker's capacity utilisation rate in the fourth quarter would be about 70 percent, compared with 76 percent in the third quarter, Wu said.

He said prices of flash memory chips, which accounted for about 15 percent of company sales in the third quarter, still have room to fall 10-20 percent in the fourth quarter.

On Tuesday, Macronix shares fell 3.98 percent to close at T$24.10, while the wider TAIEX index dropped 0.86 percent.
