Tuesday November 13, 12:17 PM Indonesian Cable Maker Predicts Higher Exports sg.news.yahoo.com JAKARTA, Nov 13 Asia Pulse - Indonesian cable maker PT Sumi Indo Kabel Tbk has forecast a 25 per cent rise in exports of copper ore, low tension electrical and telecommunications cables this year. Corporate Secretary Jimmy'S Tunggaldinata said in a report Monday that exports contributed up to 80 per cent of its sales. The export market has a lot of potential, but depends much on economic conditions in Japan, the main buyer of its products, Tunggaldinata said. He said in addition to Japan the company hopes to receive orders from other countries in Asia next year. Sumi Indo cooperates in marketing with Sumitomo Electric, its affiliate in Japan. Cooperation with the Japanese company is expected to give it greater opportunity to supply cables to projects in Japan and other countries in Asia. In the first half of this year Sumi Indo posted a net profit of Rp794.5 million or down from Rp826.5 million in the same period last year. Its net sales in the first six months of this year totaled Rp399.5 billion, up from Rp204 billion in the same period last year. The decline in its net profit was caused by larger loss on foreign exchange, Tunggaldinata said.
