Kabul Jubilations and celebrations on newfound freedom. The NA policing within Kabul manning the city, thousands on the street celebrating. Main body of the forces stay behind until a UN organised structure of interim government is in place. BBC CNN and world media beaming pictures of fall and contented people. In 1992 NA move in Kabul was very difficult for its inhabitants, today with exception of few isolated incidents, it looks like a very balanced organised move. The emotions of Islamic streets and ability of the Government to show some concrete movement on the ground will give this campaign a new momentum towards Kandahar. My opinion remains that Taliban has been greatly weakened; they were not ever bombarded with such determined will. Soviets in Afghanistan could not afford that luxury of carpet bombardments first for world media second the local forces were far too spread out and unlike Taliban were not a par-military dug in one place. The analysts still think that south will be a difficult buy, I doubt it. Fall of Kabul has changed the fortunes of O&O quite bleak. Fighting in caves without Hochiminh trail is impossible. We have discussed on this thread several times that internal dissent would need some support from somewhere, I don’t see them getting it from anywhere. I think it was a great strategy and victory for US.

Without deploying much of the muscle on the ground and get the fall of entire South should and will open a lot of eyes who had some negative aspirations. Now some who argued that bombs are falling on soft targets will realise that bombs do soften oppositions, the aerial root from 1990 in Iraq, Yugoslavia and Kabul has all delivered the required results, the fall of Iraqi might in three-four days, the fall of Milosivic and fall of Kabul today.
