XO Communications Announces Multi-location, Multi-year Contract With Children's Hospital
XO to Provide Integrated Voice and Data Services to Central Ohio's Leading Children's Medical Facility
COLUMBUS, Ohio--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 13, 2001-- XO Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq: XOXO - news), one of the nation's fastest growing providers of broadband communications services, announced today that it will provide integrated voice and data telecommunications services for 19 of Children's Hospital's Central Ohio locations.
Under the agreement, Children's Hospital will use XO's extensive metro fiber network, which spans more than 253 route miles throughout Central Ohio, for point-to-point services between the hospital's main campus in Columbus and all of Children's Hospital's offsite locations throughout Central Ohio.
Additionally, XO has linked one of the hospital's offsite radiology centers to its main campus using XO's Gigabit Ethernet services and has consolidated local and long distance voice services, and dedicated Internet access for Children's on one convenient invoice.
``The combination of XO's metro fiber network and suite of integrated services allows customers to spend less time managing multiple service providers and more time conducting their primary business - in this case saving children's lives,'' said Mike Ruley, XO Communications' Market Sales Organization President. ``Perhaps equally important for customers like Children's Hospital, XO has the necessary back-end OSS systems, an established customer support organization, and the technical support required to manage long-term customer needs.''
``We wanted a provider capable of offering transport solutions to send data-heavy medical files and images in a reliable and timely manner, so Children's could speed up the diagnostic processes for all of our locations,'' said Children's Hospital Vice President of Information Services Robert Schwyn. ``XO's point-to-point services combined with its Gigabit Ethernet offering proved to be the best solution to match our needs.''
XO's fast Ethernet transport solution offers LAN to LAN connectivity at full network speeds (100Mbps) at a considerable cost savings over other forms of metropolitan area network transport like frame relay or ATM.
In addition, this transport solution is simple to manage, requiring no configuration management by the customer. XO's Ethernet Services allows Children's Hospital to focus on managing its own data network without purchasing expensive routing equipment or contending with interconnection specifics.
``Children's continually strives to provide the highest quality, cost-effective services'' said Schwyn. ``We estimate that XO will save us in excess of 20 percent on costs we were paying other service providers. They offered a rate and services package no one else could duplicate.''
