Jim,
I do kind of a see your point (with regard to terrorism anyway.). 'In the long run' War, I agree, may not be the answer and instead the roots of terrorism need to be found and eliminated. However in the short term we have no other choice for which terrorists 'do already exist', and with the kinds of Taliban and other islamic psychopaths, you can not reason with or deter them, and therefore you just have to eliminate them through any means possible.
However in doing so - no matter what U.S does - there will always be someone, some group, some country that will not be happy. You can not make all the people all the time happy. Therefore you will always have some who are angrey and will show their anger to you through war.
I guess, the best that can be done is to at least minimize the number of people who are angry at you. But to do this, it may itself, require war!
I believe there will be a day where there will be no war anywhere, and your idealistic views of tolerance, and cooperation, and peace will exist. However it is an evolutionary long process (that may not happen for another 100 years). But it will happen, and as an optimist I believe we are on the right track moving toward that evolution "very fast". |
