Hi MrM., I was part of the Great Prodigy Diaspora back in 1996 and 1997. We moved out board here to SI as it was much more fertile ground. I have to day that we've done well with our thread here on SI and I'd really hate to have to move us again.

Part of what killed the Money Talk thread on Prodigy was the fees they charged near the end. It had a dual effect as has been mentioned here. Lots of Spammers and other annoyances disappeared which made reading more enjoyable and less tiresome. At the same time, the quality authors started to leave as well. Its payment system was set up on a Pay As You Go basis, so if you browsed for very long, the bill could be huge.

Even when SI started charging for its service it still offered ways around the fee, such as signing up for a brokerage account (even if you never funded it). There used to be a web site where one could query about a stock and get all the postings listed by many of the various BBs. I've long since lost that link, so don't know much about recent history. Of the stocks that I viewed from that site, many had the largest number and best posting still on SI. This goes back over 6 months now, I believe. It would be interesting to find that site again and do some "testing" as to quantity and quality.

I, too, would be sad if SI ended as it will be very hard to replace.

Best regards, Tom
