There was a movie based loosely on it called "Fearless" (based on the book by the same name). Stars were Jeff Bridges, Isabella Rosallini and Rosie Perez. Dealt with a lot of the post-crash issues and specifically PTSD. Incredibly moving crash sequence...I cried when I saw it.

3000 feet isn't much room to deal with engines shutting down which is the normal procedure if the engines flame out from a bird. Maybe the pilot knew that he would certainly crash if he shut the engine(s) down so decided to go full throttle to see if he could power his way out of the situation. This in turn would exacerbate the problem with the vibrations.

Anecdote Time: When I was a teenager, I worked at a Marina in Lake Tahoe during the summer months. Of course we rented out boats. When a rental boat came back in, we would take the boat for a test drive that was no more than 100 feet (at full throttle). The point of the test drive was to see if the prop got dinged. At the high RPMs, even a small ding in a prop will shake the boat pretty significantly. A medium sized ding feels like a 9.0 earthquake.

But, I would still expect the sheer-pins to do their job before the tail shakes off.
