"chipmakers"
just "a little matter of software", supposed to be platform independent.
but ARM is obviously tested, verified and widely licensed, bad for Intel??
Additionally ARM is RISC.ltd, while Intel is CISC.
But even the really complex Intels are rumored to just be some hundreds of RISCs, but that too makes it really Complex.
Ilmarinen
RISC, Reduced (simple) Instruction Set CISC, Cloudy (complex) Instruction Set..
And AMD struggling inbetween. (Intel got frozen in the anti-RISC attitude during the AMD-Intel fght on the fastest 286, Intel still recovering,AMD still struggling like before)
DSPs are obviously and traditionally the real smart RISCs, but the ARM is more optimized for small chip size and low power consumption, larger memory size. (the japanese RISC variations are also good, but less widely licensed in telecom, more common in game boys, videos, etc.)
Plus that thing about that more safely crashing OS, WinCrash_and_Doze, Symbian or ITRON. |
