According to the SA article, Vical's naked DNA technology and cytofectins are two methods of delivering the vectors. The vectors are defined as agents carrying potentially therapeutic genes. I don't think Vical's delivery is done by injection into the blood stream but by injection into the tumor. The 'ultimate goal' is a delivery system like any current day vanilla old shot & have it find and deliver its charge to any infected areas.

The article said that 'No such targeted carriers are yet ready for testing in patients, but work toward that end is advancing quickly.'

I'll call Vical and see if they would care to comment. My motives are not questioning their technology but to establish a time frame within which this 'ultimate goal' may happen.
