India has been told by the U.S. not to cross over into Pakistan to destroy their training camps because the U.S. needs Pakistan right now.

As far as I know, the U.S. only made that request in the past two months. Why didn't India cross over and destroy the training camps before 9/11?

Why doesn't India just flip the U.S. the bird and say "sorry, we need to cross over and destroy those training camps"? I keep on reading about how India doesn't need the U.S., what could be their motivation for agreeing to hold off for now?

It seems to me like the people of India who have a problem with the U.S. asking India to hold off on hostilities toward Pakistan, really need to be looking to their own government as the problem and not the U.S. It's time for other countries to start taking responsibility for their own decisions instead of always blaming the U.S. If it isn't in India's own self interest to cooperate with the U.S. WRT to Pakistan, than they should not make a decision to cooperate with the U.S.
