H-P Advances Fourth-Quarter Report
November 13, 2001 5:47:00 PM ET

PALO ALTO, Calif. (Reuters) - Computer and printer maker Hewlett-Packard Co.(HWP) on Tuesday said it would report its fourth quarter earnings on Wednesday, Nov. 14, one day earlier than planned, to avoid a releasing its results at the same time as Dell Computer Corp. (DELL).

Palo Alto, California-based HP said it would release its report after market close on Nov. 14, at about 4:30 p.m. EST.

Analysts and investors were eagerly awaiting the report, and subsequent conference call, to hear an update on HP's proposed merger with Compaq Computer Corp.(CPQ)

Support for the nearly $22 billion merger, announced on Sept. 4, has eroded in the past week as members of both the Hewlett and Packard families have said they will vote against the deal.

Since the merger was announced on Sept. 4, wary investors have unloaded shares of both companies, knocking $3 billion off the deal's value. Many analysts have said it is now unclear whether the pact, the biggest computer merger in history, will fly.

The investment community continues to wait for HP to file with regulators the proxy for a shareholder vote on the deal, which is planned for the first half of next year.
