Michael M,
You can't force a person to get a National ID card unless some force of law is applied in a court of law, and you have to catch them first. A national ID cannot protect our borders, or keep track of felons, if they can avoid being saddled with one, and you can be assured that they can avoid just that. They are already avoiding the harshest gun laws that are in place in countries around the world. What makes you think a national ID card will be any different??
You can make the card foolproof, but making everyone in the country have one, is most certainly not fool proof. Again it is a situation that only law abiding citizens will abide by the law, and the criminals, terrorists, or what ever bad guys there are, will not abide by the law. A criminal is an "outlaw". That means he doesn't give two whoops in hell about what the law may be. He IS going to break the law.
I want our borders defended, but the card will not be of any appreciable help in doing so. We need more guards, with more leeway in making judgements of the severity of the action to be taken in each, and every, case. If we had a judicial system that was worth a shit, we would be better off. If the ACLU were completely destroyed, we would be better off. To defend the borders, we must first clean our own house.
