Corporate Mission Statement: It is the continuing mission of Pacific Sands to develop, license and market environmentally safe, energy saving and economically sound water and wastewater treatment alternatives for industrial and consumer uses.
Industrial Initiatives: Pacific Sands is currently engaged in the development and installation of Hurriflo Wastewater Systems in the region surrounding the corporate headquarters in Clovis, California. Through local on-site research and development in central California, it is the goal of the company to standardize the Hurriflo family of industrial water treatment systems to a modular product line that can be marketed and sold through third party wastewater contractors worldwide.
The Hurriflo family of water treatment systems includes industrial and agricultural wastewater treatment, pond systems and cooling tower treatment plants. Hurriflo systems are designed to incorporate filtration, decanting, bio-enzymes and ozone to purify water. The goal of the Hurriflo family of water treatment systems is to provide a safe, nontoxic alternative to the use of toxic chemicals often used in industrial water treatment.
Commercial and Consumer Initiatives:
Pacific Sands Eco One line of spa treatment products is the first in a proposed line of Eco One, enzyme based water treatment solutions. Pacific Sands is working to expand the Eco One line to include pool treatment, general household cleaning products and pet sprays as well as commercial additives for pools and spas.
Environmental Initiatives:
Pacific Sands is, at its core, an environmental company. The goal of the company is to develop and market water treatment solutions that do not incorporate toxic substances in the treatment of recreational and wastewater. Hurriflo systems are designed to use a minimal amount of energy and resources while delivering results comparable to, or better than, conventional systems.
All of Pacific Sands products are 100% chlorine free.
Products:
The company is engaged in a strategy to simultaneously introduce its products and services to the industrial and consumer markets.
Industrial Products:
Businesses are increasingly being told by the government and their customers to "Clean up your Act." A manufacturer can no longer discharge contaminated water into sewer systems without significant fines and/or fees being levied by the government. Dairymen can no longer allow their animal sewage to soak into the ground eventually affecting the aquifer, which turns into tomorrow's drinking water. Oil companies use hot water to extract crude oil from the ground. This water becomes contaminated by oil and must be disposed of at tremendous cost. Food processors can no longer dump their raw effluent into municipal sewage systems without paying significant environmental impact fees. Pacific Sands has environmentally safe solutions for these industries.
Hurriflo Wastewater Treatment Systems:
In August of 2000, Pacific Sands began installation of the first Hurriflo Wastewater Treatment System at a food processing plant in California. The system has since gone through extensive testing and modification aimed at creating a core wastewater treatment solution for use in the food processing industry.
Using a combination of filtering, pH balancing, ozone introduction and enzyme treatment, the Hurriflo system can save manufacturers from having to pay massive environmental impact fees related to wastewater discharge. In some instances, the Hurriflo system can pay for itself in less than a year by simply reducing EPA fines, impact fees and sewage charges.
The Hurriflo system requires minimal maintenance and can dramatically reduce monthly "expendable" costs when compared to polymer separation and chemical-based systems.
Each Hurriflo system solution is different due to size of client's operations and amount of contaminants during daily discharge. All installations are customized to the needs of the customer.
Eco One Cooling Tower Treatment: Eco One Cooling Tower Treatment cleans as it conditions cooling tower water naturally, easily and without the problems associated with toxic chemical treatments. Eco One Cooling Tower Treatment dissolves away oils and contaminants, breaking them down into harmless carbon dioxide and water. This nontoxic compound softens water and helps reduce mineral buildup. It helps in breaking down existing scale, reducing the need for acid cleanings or wire brushing the cores.
Eco One Cooling Tower Treatment is marketed in conjunction with the Hurriflo systems as part of a complete industrial water treatment package. Consumer Products: Pacific Sands is establishing a distribution network of independent manufacturer's representatives nationwide. The company has established independent representatives in California, Oregon, Washington State, the Midwest, including Wisconsin, Illinois, Minnesota, North and South Dakota and Iowa, and South including Florida, Arkansas, East Texas, Missouri, Kentucky, Tennessee, Mississippi, Louisiana, and Alabama. These representatives are currently pursuing pool and spa stores and chains as well as major national outlets that handle pool and spa products.
Pacific Sands currently offers three products for home spa care and maintenance.
Eco One Step One is a powerful, nontoxic spa cleanser that removes contaminants and chemical residue from deep inside plumbing, fittings and equipment. The Eco One Step One process is necessary for all old and new spas before using Eco One Spa Treatment.
Eco One Spa Treatment is a powerful, monthly formula using natural compounds and organic enzymes to gently maintain sparkling clean, clear water in your spa while leaving your skin feeling smooth and moisturized. When used in conjunction with a conventional sanitizing agent, Eco One Spa Treatment can reduce spa maintenance by eliminating odors and 'scum lines,' as well reduce foaming and cloudiness. Eco One can also extend spa life by keeping pipes, plumbing and hardware clean with reduced scale buildup.
Eco One Vinyl Top Conditioner is specifically formulated to help protect vinyl spa covers against hardening, cracking and fading caused by aging, weather and the sun. It also cleans away mold and mildew, reducing a major source of spa water odors. Just spray directly on the surface, wipe with a soft cloth and buff dry.
An estimated 9,000,000 spas are currently in use in the US. There are 250,000 new spas manufactured each year. The overall market potential for spa maintenance products is estimated to be $1.3 billion annually in chemical sales based on an average chemical consumption of $150 per spa per year.
Recent Developments: Earlier in 2001, Pacific Sands recovered approximately 3,000,000 of its outstanding shares of common stock, reducing the total number of outstanding shares to approximately 17,000,000 shares. These shares were recovered partially from previous employees, partners and contractors. Pacific Sands president, Stanley Paulus voluntarily returned 700,000 shares of stock to the company and Rita Paulus, the company treasurer returned 200,000 shares of stock to the company treasury.
Since that time, the company has utilized a small portion of the recovered stock to finance daily operations and marketing. The rest is reserved for future use for financing operations and / or acquisitions.
On July 12, 2001, Pacific Sands announced that it had renewed its cooling tower maintenance contract with a major manufacturer in central California. According to the facilities engineer of the plant, Eco One has "...done everything you said it would ... and more. I'm very pleased with your product. It makes keeping our tower maintenance safe and efficient, as I've never seen before."
This contract is key in Pacific Sands strategy to provide complete water treatment solutions to industries.
Outlook: Pacific Sands, Inc. expects to complete all major testing and modification of the initial Hurriflo Wastewater Treatment System shortly. This initial system, originally engineered to handle flow rates of 15 gallons per minute (GPM) and Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD) of 6,000, has been extensively modified to treat effluent flow rates of up to 25 GPM and BOD in excess of 33,000.
With the extensive research and testing that has been dedicated to the initial Hurriflo system, Pacific Sands expects to be able to build a standardized system to fulfill future contracts. Pacific Sands currently has several other Hurriflo installation projects pending the final results of the initial Hurriflo system.
Eco One Spa Product sales increased throughout 2001 as a result of the initiation of the Eco One distribution network of independent representatives and other marketing initiatives. The concentration of the representatives, to date, had been to establish a presence in smaller pool and spa stores and chains. Pacific Sands is also in discussions with several major retail outlets that sell pool and spa chemicals.
With its very modest burn rate and nominal debt, Pacific Sands, Inc. expects to achieve operational profitability in 2001.
