<<<OT>>> I basically agree with you that the vast majority of those enemy soldiers aren't a future threat. Just as surrendering Germans weren't a future threat in 1945. But there are Islamic extremists there who most definitely are a future threat.

Here's a prediction:
Hardcore anti-Western extremists will get thru this defeat by passing themselves off as simple soldiers, or by hiding out in the mountains, or with sympathetic folks in & out of Afghanistan.
--- These guys won't say to themselves "Lucky I got out of that alive! No more attacking The Great Satan for me!"
--- They will immediately begin planning their next operation.

Meanwhile, America will feel victorious & pleased with itself, and won't want to do the messy job of continuing to fight Islamic extremist terrorists.
(Much easier to just talk tough & rattle your sabre than to hunt them in nooks & crannies all over the world. Upsetting the Saudis & others; interfering with banking practices; etc etc)
There'll be flag-waving & parades & speeches from politicians. Victory will be declared.
Then the 'War on Terrorism' will fade into bluster.

Then they'll strike again. And the same cycle repeats.

I hope I'm wrong.
