Lorne-- national ID? OK... but why not just require a Passport instead? Not certain feds taking airport security is a good idea. Oversight and supervision yes. Thousands more civil servants does not make sense. Granted the need for a higher quality of employee is needed in some (far from all) cases. That will require higher wages-- fine. But civil service status is far from required and could bring more problems than it solves. Things like manditory RANDOM drug testing etc are also required.
