What class do you take?
My dear husband, who takes very seriously the fact that he never knows what to get me as a present, has been lavishing me on special occasions with books from Cook's Illustrated. Eventually we're going to have all of them, but so far I really like them.
We've been arguing for weeks about whether I should get a free range turkey for Thanksgiving, but I put down my foot and ordered one from Fresh Fields on Sunday, and he was relieved to find that they only cost $1.79 a pound. Which is far more than they cost at Giant or Safeway, but in his mind they cost maybe $3 a pound, so he was relieved.
In terms of food, Thanksgiving is often a bigger day for my husband and I as cooks than Christmas, because nobody contributes to "pot luck" for Thanksgiving, while we always do "pot luck" for Christmas.
His brother always comes for Thanksgiving, and that's all the family he's got left, so we really put on the dog, as they say.
For Christmas I usually go see my family and bring the kids, and even though it's further away, it's not such a big deal. |
