(COMTEX) Man boards aircraft with meat cleavers

Nov 15, 2001 (AIRLINE INDUSTRY INFORMATION via COMTEX) -- A 76-year-old chef
from Hong Kong faces a misdemeanour charge for trying to board a United Airlines
flight with two meat cleavers in his carry-on bag.

Sung Ming Mok flew to Miami from Caracas, Venezuela with the 4-inch-by-4-inch
kitchen knives in his checked luggage. He then carried the bag containing the
cleavers through an airport checkpoint at Miami International Airport which was
staffed by employees from the embattled Argenbright Security Inc.

Mok was able to board flight 1259 in Miami with the meat cleavers in his
carry-on.

The cleavers were eventually discovered during a random hand check of Mok's bag
as he approached the gate at O'Hare International Airport. United Airlines has
said that the man did not pose a terrorist threat. He has been charged with
unlawful use of a weapon, a misdemeanour, and was released on his own
recognizance pending a court appearance on 14 December, reported United Press
International.
