Bush always goes overboard. I mean...how many times a day have you heard him say "evil ones", "bring them to justice", and "get 'em running". Or even per speech.

Seriously though...I think the Putin/Russia relationship being developed here has some very favorable implications going forward. Russia used to be the 2nd major power in the world and still can be. The fall of communism years ago was the first step, and this could be the next major step in bringing out a more uniform consortium of nations working together for the benefit of the whole planet. It will take time, but I see potentially good things to come out of this and I hope he pursues good relations with them. Russia has certainly helped to break OPEC lately, but I often wonder why it took this particular card to do so. We have been way to dependent on the mideast for oil or at least that is what we are led to believe. However, OPEC is not the only oil supply. The US gets only 14% of the total oil consumed here from the Persian Gulf with Saudi Arabia being our biggest supplier there at about 8.9%. Venezuela makes up another 9%. We purchase more oil from Canada than we do from OPEC (9.1%), produce about 40% of what we use on our own, and only get about 25% of the oil we use from Opec nations. It's hard to imagine why the mid east has been such an influence. If Russia replaces half of what we get from the Mid east, the impact is obvious, but we have no idea at this point what the agreements are.
