Saw on the news this morning that some recently released tapes of LBJ reveal that he considered Vietnam unwinnable from the beginning. If that were the case, it is truly amazing that the US escalated to half a million troops in southeast Asia. The point should be made though that regardless of the wisdom of our leaders our military is just that, a military. I am a former Marine and the military is not a democracy. Soldiers follow orders, that is what they are trained to do. If anyone has a problem with the military, write your Congress or President. Our soldiers are only servants of our government doing what they are told to do. Not to accept this is a disservice to our fighting men who stand ready to serve America. * * *
