Intel said they were purposely selling more CPU's through distributors and therefore less through direct sales. That means they must have dropped 2nd and 3rd tier OEM's from being allowed to get direct sales discounts.

That probably made the white-boxers very happy.

Unfortunately, the shortage of P4's has short-circuited the plan, and reduced supply on the distribution channel. Witness rising prices on Pricewatch.

So now the white-boxers are worse off than they ever were, with P4's being allocated to the big OEM's first at the lowest prices while prices in the distribution channel rise because of the lower supply.
