The DROIDS are WORRIED !!! --- Northwood (0.13 micron process) will initially launch in quarter 1 at 2.2 GHz - 400 MHz FSB, but will be succeeded by a 2.4 GHz - 533 MHz Northwood in (early) Quarter 2. It has also been confirmed that Northwood has 512 KB L2-cache on board.

Intel Northwood news... (INTEL) By Johan Thursday, November 15, 2001 4:25 PM EST
A while ago, I was surprised to hear that Intel was going to introduce the 533 MHz FSB only in the third quarter. After all, all i850 boards I have tested so far (AOPEN, ASUS, Gigabyte) were able to reach this speed without much trouble (with the RDRAM at 400 MHz DDR). Industry sources close to intel have revealed that Intel will speed up the FSB (Front Side Bus) to 533 MHz in the second quarter instead of the third.
According to our sources, Northwood (0.13 micron process) will initially launch in quarter 1 at 2.2 GHz - 400 MHz FSB, but will be succeeded by a 2.4 GHz - 533 MHz Northwood in (early) Quarter 2. It has also been confirmed that Northwood has 512 KB L2-cache on board. With a bit of luck, some of the current 478 pin boards may support Northwood if they support Northwood's lower voltages.
The Tehama - E will be Intel's first 533 MHz chipset, but as we know, most i850 chipsets can reach this speed too. The detail are sketchy but the Tehama-E seems to be a i850 chipset on steroids: 133 MHz Quad pumped FSB and support for 1066 MHz RDRAM. In other words, you can find our Tehama-E + Pentium 4 preview right here ;).
There seems to be some life left in the P6-core: the 0.13 micron Celeron Tualatin will reach 1.4 GHz in Quarter 2, and it is possible it will touch 1.5 GHz at the end of his life (Q4 of 2002). |
