I haven't seen the source code, but I've seen the effects of making changes to it. It's apparently worse than spaghetti. And the database structure contains two very bad problems I'm aware of, one of which is a major performance killer, and the other of which is a potentially major security problem which has been ignored successfully but could very well bite them on the ass anytime. Unless they've finally changed it, a new member's screen name is their login name. Anyone who has an inclination to hack accounts is halfway there with any account less than two years old.

And why?

Because it was "too confusing" keeping track of the distinction between "alias" and "loginID".

I could spend the whole evening telling horror stories about what went on behind the scenes, but don't wanna go there. My blood pressure rises every time I think about the alias thing.
