Update: FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 2001-131 Securities and Exchange Commission Statement On Treasury Long Bond Situation Washington, DC, November 6, 2001 – The Securities and Exchange Commission today issued the following statement: “Following a referral from the Department of the Treasury, we have initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the announcement of the Treasury’s decision to end its 30-year bond offerings.” Enforcement Division Director Stephen Cutler added: “In keeping with our responsibilities to ensure the integrity of the nation’s securities markets, we will vigorously pursue this matter.
