Traditional Chinese Industries to Undergo Technology Upgrade

BEIJING, Nov 16 Asia Pulse - China will employ new technology to upgrade 18 traditional industries including the metallurgy, machine-building, petrochemical, electric power, coal, and textile sector in the Tenth Five-Year Plan period (2001-2005), according to Xie Xuren, vice-minister of the State Economic and Trade Commission.
Xie said that during the Tenth Five-Year Plan period, the country will make new breakthroughs in information technology, biotechnology, new materials technology, new energy technology and advanced manufacturing technology.

These achievements, particularly in the information technology sector, will be used to upgrade the automation, intelligence control and management levels of the traditional industries, he said.

According to Xie, the government is formulating related policies and measures to accomplish the goal.
