Rumors about INTC layoffs:
. Briefing.com is hearing from
sources at Robertson Stephens that
the firm believes semiconductor
heavyweight Intel (INTC -0.4%) is in
the process of laying off 8-10% of its
workforce. The firm believes this will
contribute to an expansion in gross
margins and may be a slight positive
though the firm is cautious on the
stock overall. Nonetheless, we would
note that the market may view layoffs
as an indication that Intel's fourth
quarter uptick in business will not be
sustained. In either case, the stock is
posting a modest loss at this point in
the session while the SOX has edged into positive territory with a 0.1% intraday gain.
