Here's is an excerpt on future battery power needs imposed by the new G3 phones (Battery Power: Products and Technology, issue 5(15), Nov. 2001, p.14, batterypoweronline.com):

[...The complexity of next-generation platforms is compounded by the users' inevitable demand that these data-enabled phones provide the same stand-by and talk times, typically over 200 hours and up to 3 hours respectively, as those featured in existing 2G phones. The problem is that users also place size as priority, so larger batteries that may be better equipped to handle the increased performance requirements are out of the question. Assuming the same size battery is used in a 3G phone with today's battery technology, it is estimated that the battery life for a GPRS-enabled cellular phone would be about 1/3 of th existing 2G GSM phones. For the 3G phones, it is expected that the battery life will diminish to 1/15 of that of existing GSM phones....]

Now, something is wrong with this picture, isn't it? <G>
