No, this isn't capitalism at all:

having someone working for you that was well connected and knew who was who and who you had to pay off

Anyone who practices this lowers expected return. A connection is like a market fix. Knowing who is who causes you to lose more than it gains and usually causes you to lose everything, because you never know who is the nark. Paying off is double jeopardy and is worse than knowing who is who which you discover with the sting.

The worst non-capitalistic thing about dealing is that you end up extending credit to your buyers and they end up burning you and you have no legal redress. Drug dealing is presumably all cash, but that isn't what happens gradually over time. You can't help but extend trade credit which always expands to the burn.
