Intel Corp. (Buy - followed by Charles Boucher)
Microprocessor demand is meeting expectations for seasonal improvement in Q4.
Although Intel said that there were no production problems, some customers have
indicated that Pentium 4 shipments have trailed demand. Intel did acknowledge
that it is scrambling to meet demand.
The Pentium 4 ramp continues to be very strong. At the end of October, Pentium
4 exceeded 50% of all U.S. retail PC units sold. Moreover, the corporate
market has converted to Pentium 4 much faster than expected, which is a
positive surprise and may be contributing to some of the supply constraints.
The combination of supply constraints and improving speed mix is causing
blended ASP to stabilize.
Microprocessor demand is strongest in the emerging markets and small- medium
business, which has been the trend for the last few quarters. Intel continues
to see strength from its international distribution channel. The Japanese
market remains weak and no improvement is expected in the near term.
